Olive wood gives great color and movement to this hand carved statue of St. George and comes from our master craftsmen in Bethlehem. The statue of St. George slaying the dragon symbolizes good winning over evil.
There is remarkable detail in this handicraft from St. George’s helmet and fine carving of his tunic down to his robes and the teeth and talons of the dragon. The dragon represents an invading army who demanded many sacrifices of the people including the daughter of the King.
A young St. George arrived and slew the dragon and received vast treasures from the King but gave all his rewards to the poor. The people who witnessed his actions were impressed so became Christians and were baptized.
Each one of our artifacts is one of a kind due to the nature of the olive wood grain and contrasting colors. Our hand carving further makes it unique through the talents of the specific craftsman’s artistic ability.
