This intricate carving depicts the Holy Family in the manger, safe from their travels, and accompanied by a sweet lamb, nestling into the manger with them. This Nativity Scene artwork highlights the skill and artistry of the master carver in both the selection of this olive wood, allowing the grain of the wood to radiate the love and light from Mary to the world, as well as the expertise of the artist in rendering the scene, complete with the folds of the cloaks and the tender expressions. This piece is amazingly cut from a limb of the olive tree. The bark of that limb surrounds the scene, reminding us we are ever cradled in our creator’s care.
